About InterServInterServ is a faith-based, not-for-profit, human service organization countering the effects of poverty on children, youth, elderly and families in St. Joseph, Missouri and neighboring communities. Since 1909, we have worked to seek out and assist those in need, so that all may live their lives more fully and more capably. From our rich heritage as an outreach mission of the Methodist Church to the ecumenical ministry we have become today, our history (and our future) is built on a foundation of faith and an unwavering determination to advocate on behalf of those with the fewest alternatives.
As convener and advocate, InterServ has built a reputation as a leader in our
community. St. Joseph’s first Childcare Center for working parents was, and
still is located at Wesley Center. Our Elderly Nutrition and Homemaker programs
were one of the first established in the state and our Mobile Meals program is
the largest in the area, serving over 74,000 meals to homebound seniors yearly.
Throughout our history, we have actively responded to the needs of the community
by developing programs and services relevant to the needs of the people. In the
early 1900’s a handful of valiant women opened the doors to Wesley House to
reach out to the many immigrant families that lived and worked in the packing
plants and stock yards.
With Deaconess Miss Francis Scott driving the mission, Wesley House, in conjunction with the Jr. League, organized a milk station for mothers and children. Under the leadership of Joyce Raye Patterson and later David G. Berger, InterServ pressed forward to meet new challenges and reflect changing times.
Today, almost a century later, InterServ stands as a beacon of hope, providing
comprehensive social services that reach vulnerable populations throughout
Northwest Missouri. Individual & Family Assistance, Counseling and Case
Management, Immigrant Services, In-Home Services, Professional Medical Services,
Elderly Nutrition, Infant/Childcare, Youth Programs and Volunteer Opportunities
address issues that impact the individuals and families that make our community
strong.

InterServ is also working toward the future and serving new and emerging needs. The InterServ Foundation was formed to help us journey into our next century of service with a strong financial base that will help us meet the needs of the community.
Community Missions Corporation is our sister organization that serves chronically homeless men. The Juda House opened in December of 2006 and St Joseph's Haven opened in September of 2009. Both facilities house chronically homeless men with disabilities.
