In Home Services saves Taxpayer dollars!
A 2002 statistical sampling of InterServ Medicaid clients showed that locally it costs an average of $7,610 per year to support an elderly client living at home. This cost includes congregate or home delivered meals, medical transportation, housing subsidies, home health services, monthly food order assistance and utility assistance. These costs are far below that of a nursing care facility.
Each year it costs Missouri Taxpayers $32,385 per person placed in a nursing
home.
In FY 2000 it is estimated that over $260 million in nursing facility costs were
avoided as a result of increased use of alternatives to facility-based long term
care. State statistics show that 72% of the nursing facility cost avoidance
total resulted from providing in home care. Missouri Care Options Report FY 2000
